Ineffable Essenceis a culmination of the psychological, global and technological sublime. It seeks to bring out an emotional response within the viewer, to look at how the landscape has been transformed by human intervention, how we see the environment around us and our impact on it.
Can we find the sublime in today’s world, where we as the human population have placed our mark on almost every facet of the planet? Have we tainted this feeling of the magnificence of nature? What can we do in our own backyard to regain this?
Through research and experimentation the work has sought influences from historical movements and placed the theme of the Romantic sublime in a contemporary environment. The trees in the images have been planted by man, the environment around us is not untouched, the creation of the work is not just constructed by the layering of the image through manual; and post production means but the landscape that has been constructed by others before me, A constructed nature, manipulated, photographed and then reconstructed to create harmony.
